Big Surprise at Cwmtawe Sevens

Cwmtawe Sevens 2016 competition was held at Gnoll Park Neath on 13th August this year. Many will know that this annual event is usually held in Parc Ynysderw Pontadawe and was one of the premier Rugby Sevens events in Wales. More recent years have been less well supported to the point of being cancelled in 2014 due to lack of teams. Despite this the organisers have continuted to rebuild the popularity of the event.

A scratch Hendy RFC team was able play at short notice due to a spare team slot becoming available. The squad was lead by Coach James (Ceiran) and they duly left on a minibus after a slap up breakfast.

Hendy played the first round against Cwmgors winning 42-0 but the second round against Trebanos was much tougher resulting in a loss. However Hendy were able to recover against Neath Athletic winning 12-5. After a totting up of wins and points the team found itself in the Shield Finals against Camlas an invitational team. This was a very close game and Hendy only won in the last seconds of the match with a fine try. It looks like the preseason training has paid off. Congratulations to all who took part.
